Kichizo Yoshida, the founder of Yoshida & Co., LTD jumped in the world of bag manufacturing at the age of 12, until he passed away at the age of 88. His philosophy of ‘One stitch all soul’ still persists as the corporate motto.

In 1962 Yoshida launched its first private brand ‘Porter’, till today the established Tokyo brand is known for its high quality bags and luggage. All its manufacturing takes place in Japan, where Porter runs more than 50 specialist workshops instead of centralising production at one large factory. This reflects the company’s philosophy to preserve Japanese manufacturing heritage and to ensure the brand’s legendary quality standards are upheld.

“Each bag is made by just one craftsman, from beginning to end, who will become an expert in their particular field as the years pass, constantly improving and refining the process,” explains a company representative. Porter bags will continue to offer the perfect balance between form and function while carry on Yoshida’s legacy.

“We must conserve our craftsmen. That’s why we honor ‘Japan made’.”

Teruyuki Yoshida
